about the Movements Foundation
Below, please find an abstract from the aims of the 'Movements Stichting' (Movements Foundation) as formulated in its articles of association. 1. The aim of the foundation is: to make the practising of the dances and physical exercises called Movements - as developed by G.I. Gurdjieff (1866 - 1949) - accessible to everyone and further to do all that is directly or indirectly connected with, or may advance this aim, all in the broadest sense of the word.
2.1 the organisation of courses, wherever, in which Movements are taught relevantly by persons qualified by their knowledge, experience and skills. The latter to be assessed by the foundation's board; 2.2 the purchase and management, if necessary the rent, of permanent practice rooms where Movements can be taught; 2.3 historical research into and collecting and/or purchasing data concerning the exact form and framework in which G.I. Gurdjieff developed and applied his Movements, as well as their musical accompaniment; 2.4 setting up and maintaining archives of these data, usually choreographs, notes, films or videos, sheet music and sound recording media; 2.5 making this archive accessible to, in principle, everyone. However, in compliance with the conditions as determined by the foundation's board; 2.6 the compilation of a Movements Catalogue, as reliable as possible, and a Catalogue of G.I. Gurdjieff's musical pieces, as well as the regular updating thereof; 2.7 investigating the possibilities of whether the principles underlying the Movements can be made available, to an appropriate extent, for the benefit of existing pedagogical structures, such as schools, colleges, adult education centres, universities, with the aim of modestly integrating these principles into the existing pedagogical system; 2.8 stimulating and, if appropriate, financially supporting scientific and/or serious research - the latter to be assessed by the foundation's board - into how and whether the principles underlying the Movements and their music can be applied in music therapy and/or kinesiotherapy for disabled or emotionally blocked children, adolescents and adults in crisis situations or other circumstances causing physical, emotional or mental blocks, and/or other patient groups; 2.9 compiling and distributing information about practising Movements or what may stimulate this by means of circulars, newsletters, a website or otherwise; 2.10 the formation of a fund out of the donations of those who endorse the above aims and wish to make them financially possible.
